Students rely on YOU every day. You have a huge impact on their experience at Kirkwood and we want to hear more about it.
Tell us about yourself, your program, your approach to supporting students and anything else we should know!
Meet David Jennerjohn, associate professor of Industrial Maintenance, who goes the extra mile for his students. David noticed that some of his non-native English-speaking students were struggling with industry terminology, so he took it upon himself to learn their language — French — in his free time to better support their success.
“I love being able to meet students and help them figure out their plans. I’m here to help them navigate academics, look for jobs, or get scholarships — whatever it is they need. I am able to be the TRIO advisor that I had when I was a student at Kirkwood.”
Morgan Bear, TRIO Advisor
Meet Becca VanderHeiden, admissions advisor. As a co-advisor for Student Ambassadors, Becca found a special way to recognize their efforts — she wrote handwritten letters to each student’s family, celebrating their leadership and success at Kirkwood.
“Students are at the heart of what we do at Kirkwood. Whether it’s the clubs and organizations we offer or the events we host on campus, it’s important that Kirkwood is a welcoming place for all students.”
Seth Vander Tuig, Director of Student Life & the Student Center
“I strive to create a community within my classrooms. This means every student will leave authentically knowing new people, achieving personal growth through collaboration and feedback, and feeling a sense of connectedness.”
Abbie Weipert, Faculty & Program Coordinator – Business Transfer
Jillissa Moorman, Interior Design and Interior Architecture program coordinator/chair and associate professor, goes beyond academics to prepare students for life. “We do life. I say my job is to prepare students 50% academic and 50% personal and professional,” Jillissa shares. She brings learning to life by getting students out of the classroom and into the community and the world, encouraging them to walk through spaces they study in textbooks.
