In 2019, 100% of the students in the Surgical Technology program at Kirkwood Community College graduated and were eligible for the CST exam.
According to data from the August 2019 Surgical Technology National Exam, of Kirkwood's 15 graduates who were eligible to take the exam, 11 students passed the exam. When you choose to study at Kirkwood, you're choosing a path to a successful career!

The Surgical Technology I class is considered the first class in the Surgical Technology program. The technical orientation will be held during the first week of class. This orientation is program-specific and separate from new student orientation.
Attendance at the ST Distance Education Program orientation is Mandatory. This MANDATORY meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 16 starting at 9:00 am. Please watch your Kirkwood student email for more information and the zoom link for this online session.
Students can review the compliance section in the program handbook on Talon for the Surgical Technology program. DO NOT purchase a CastleBranch account or start any compliance until after your technical orientation.

Students in the Surgical Technology program participate in clinical experience at area hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers in the second and third semester of the program.
Clinical sites are continuously being developed to enhance student education. One or two students are placed at a clinical site depending on the facility.
Students are not employees of their clinic sites and are not entitled to wages or benefits. They cannot be substituted for employees during the clinic component of the program.
