Bio: Sarah has her AA in Education from Kirkwood Community College and her BA in Education from the University of Iowa. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Sarah worked as the iJAG (Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates) teacher at Washington High School.

Bio: Sue has been with Kirkwood since March of 2014. Before coming to Industrial Technologies, she worked part-time in the Business and IT Department as an office assistant while completing her degree in the Administrative Assistant program. Prior to enrolling in that program, Sue spent 30 years as a professional horticulturist at private country clubs, estates, and botanic gardens in Utah, Wisconsin, California, New Hampshire, and Iowa. Sue obtained her AAS in Horticulture from Kirkwood in 1985 and her AAS in the Administrative Assistant program in 2015.

Bio: Brian Carlson is a graduate of both the Automotive Collision Repair and the Automotive Technology programs at Kirkwood Community College. He has been in the industry since 2009 and has been a faculty member since 2014. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Brian was a collision repair technician at Cars R USS Auto Body in Belle Plaine, IA. As a student, Brian competed in the Skills USA competition for Refinishing Technology.

Bio: Chad Daugherty earned an A.A.S. degree from Kirkwood Community College. Prior to joining Kirkwood, Chad was a Service Technician for Colony Heating and Cooling.

Bio: Dane grew up in the Iowa City area (North Liberty and Tiffin) with weekend and summer visits to family farms in the Williamsburg area. He graduated from Iowa City West High in 2001. In 2005, he decided to chase a passion for welding by enrolling in that program at Kirkwood Community College. He completed all the degree requirements in 2007 and graduated. While in school he worked full time at Highway Equipment Company. He has spent the last 12 years working for Highway Equipment, with the exception of 9 months that he worked at Iowa Precision. The education, desire, and passion he has for the welding trade has helped him to continuously advance his career with welding technologies to where it is today.

Bio: Kim Fensterman graduated from Mt. Mercy College with a degree in Business Administration. Kim is currently the Program Developer for Water/Wastewater, Fire Training and ETONLINE programs for Continuing Education and Training Services. Kim serves as the Program Advisor for the online Water Environmental Technology program. She has been involved in coordinating and development of Water and Wastewater training since 1988. Kim is also a member of several state organizations in the Water and Wastewater field and is an advocate for the safety of our drinking water.

Bio: Dan earned a diploma in Welding at Hawkeye Community College. In 1985, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honor graduate at the Marine Corps Welding School in Camp Lejeune, NC. Dan owned and operated his own welding and fabrication business from 1990 until 2006. Prior to beginning at Kirkwood, Dan taught welding courses at Northeast Community College.

Bio: Steve Hanisch is currently the lead instructor for the Carpentry Program at Kirkwood. Steve previously taught Construction Management and Architecture courses for concurrent enrollment as part of the new Johnson County Regional Academy. His teaching experience prior to this position includes three years as an adjunct instructor of Industrial Technologies: Construction Management and one year as an Industrial Technologies: Construction teacher at Prairie High School. Steve earned a B.M. from the University of Iowa and an A.A.S. in Construction Management from Kirkwood. Before teaching Steve worked for 18 years as a general contractor, modular construction specialist, and craftsman.

Bio: Todd Hesseltine has an A.A.S. from Kirkwood Community College. Todd has been with Kirkwood since 2001. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Todd was an Automotive Technician at Advanced Auto Service in Iowa City. Todd was picked as the Outstanding Student of the Year in the Kirkwood Automotive Technology program class of 1990. He was raised around a family owned automotive repair shop in Iowa City.

Bio: David grew up in the Cedar Rapids area, graduating from College Community School District in 2007.  He went on to eventually get his A.A.S. in General Engineering from Kirkwood Community College, A.A.S. in Energy Production and Distribution from Kirkwood Community College, and B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University.  Prior to working at Kirkwood he spent a couple of years as Turbine Engineer and Maintenance Manager for Golden Renewable Energy.

Bio: Andy Livin has an A.A.S. from Kirkwood Community College and is currently attending UNI, majoring in Industrial Management. Andy has been with Kirkwood since 2001. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Andy was a CNC Machining Instructor at North Iowa Area Community College. For two years, he was a CNC machinist for Advanced Manufacturing Service in Cedar Rapids.

Bio: Steve received his A.E. in Electronics Engineering Technology from Oregon Institute of Technology and his B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State College. Prior to coming to Kirkwood in 2016, Steve served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 31 years, specializing in training, support, and project engineering and management for electronic systems. This included over six years as an electronics instructor and another four years in training management and administration. Steve also has a Masters Certificate in Project Management from Villanova University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Bio: Kristie received her bachelor's degree in Technology Management from UNI. She received her A.A.S. in CAD/Mechanical Engineering Design from Kirkwood. She has over 10 years of experience as a Design Engineer working with new part development, tool design, technical writing, part revisions, and customer special requests.

Bio: Jonathon Pope graduated from the T-TEN program at Kirkwood with an A.A.S. in Automotive Technology in 2004. Jonathon has been with Kirkwood since 2012. He was an automotive technician at independent shops part-time for four years and spent eight years working full-time for Lexus in Des Moines, becoming a Lexus Master Technician in 2008. Jonathon is ASE Master Certified.

Bio: Sam earned his A.A.S. in Welding from Kirkwood Community College. Since graduation Sam has been teaching for Kirkwood's Continuing Education Training and Outreach Services and as an adjunct on main campus evening sections, while also working full time at a local manufacturing company. Sam continued his teaching career by achieving his Certified Welding Inspector license and was then asked to apply for the full time welding instructor position on main campus. Sam was hired full time in 2014 and has been an active member of many clubs, groups, student activities, and leadership roles.

Bio: Jim received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa in May 1993. Prior to that, he received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. degree in Mathematics from Grinnell College. Jim came to Kirkwood with 10 years of industry experience including telecommunications and biomedical work experience with extensive hardware and software experience.
