You’re on the right track! Once you’ve applied to Kirkwood, there are still a few steps you’ll need to take to get fully registered and ready to start attending your classes.
Within MyHub, Kirkwood’s student portal, you’ll find your next steps, specific to you! Use the info below to guide you, and log in to MyHub to see where you are in the process.
One to two hours after you submit your application, you’ll receive an email letting you know your welcome letter is ready.
Using the username and password provided in the email you receive, you’ll log in to your application account. From there, you’ll be able to download your welcome letter and verify your application status.
In your welcome letter you’ll find your k-number (your official Kirkwood ID number). You can learn more about your k-number here. Getting your k-number allows you to complete your next steps below, which are also included on the second page of your welcome letter.
As a first-time student, you’ll need to set up your Kirkwood account to access your student email, MyHub, Talon, and more. Once you’ve got your k-number, set up your account here.
All new Kirkwood students must complete orientation. During orientation, you’ll:
To be able to register for orientation, you’ll need to have your Kirkwood account set up (see #4 in the “After You Apply” section above). When orientation opens, you will receive an invitation via email.
Depending on the program or Program Area you applied to, fulfilling the placement process may be required. Find info specific to your program or Program Area here.
To begin your application for student financial aid, you'll need to submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - Kirkwood’s school code is 004076. Once you’ve submitted your FAFSA, keep an eye on your student email for updates on your financial aid offer.
Note: to access your student email, you’ll need to have set up your Kirkwood account.

The first application deadline is March 15 and the second application deadline is July 15.
Kirkwood doesn’t own housing, but we partner with area apartment complexes. Most partner complexes are within walking distance of campus and many include options from one to four bedrooms. Whether you’re planning to live with a friend or need to be matched with a roommate, we can help you find the perfect living situation for your needs. You may need to attend a program conference, depending on the major/program you’ve applied for. Find out here if one is required for your program.
During a program conference, you’ll learn about program requirements as well as what to expect! You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions of program faculty and staff.
