Build Your Architecture Career

Create a more sustainable built environment with Kirkwood’s Architectural Technology program. Learn on the latest technology, including several architectural computer-aided drafting programs, dual-monitor computer stations, a 3D printer, and a point cloud scanner.

You’ll also receive instruction in hand sketching, business and graphic editing computer applications, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and liberal arts studies.

Then you’ll bring your studies alive with real-world experience by completing either a paid architectural or construction-related internship or an unpaid architectural mentoring program. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in architectural design competitions to test your skills.

Kirkwood offers more than $3 million in scholarships for students each year.

Students in this program may be eligible to have half their tuition paid for by the Kibbie Grant.

Graduates of the Architectural Technology program will be able to:

  1. Solve building design issues.
  2. Apply knowledge of construction practices and governing codes to prepare construction documents.
  3. Interpret construction documents.
  4. Demonstrate teamwork skills.
  5. Prepare sketches, presentation drawings and models.
  6. Recognize important content in architectural history and the profession.

Prior to acceptance to the program, a short informative presentation called a "Program Conference" is required of all students. This presentation will introduce you to your instructors and talk about specific requirements, classes, job outlook, and moving onto a four-year school, if desired.
