The Diagnostic Assistant degree is designed for Radiologic Technology students in partnership with the Mercy/St. Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology.
The two-year radiologic technology technical program is taught through Mercy/St. Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology. The program begins each summer and has a separate application process. There are prerequisite college courses required prior to this application.
You'll complete your prerequisite courses at Kirkwood to become eligible to apply for the Mercy/St. Luke's School of Radiologic Technology program. After you complete a portion of the program, you'll transfer those credits back to Kirkwood to receive your degree.

Kirkwood offers more than $3 million in scholarships for students each year, and there are many specifically for students enrolled in the Diagnostic Assistant program.
A one-hour program conference is required prior to acceptance to the program. You'll learn more about the program, specific admissions requirements and have the opportunity to have questions answered by program faculty and staff.

Students in Kirkwood's Diagnostic Assistant program are encouraged to join the Kirkwood chapter of HOSA, a global student-led organization exclusively for students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions.
HOSA is one of eight recognized members of the National Coordinating Council for Career and Technical Student Organizations (NCC-CTSO). CTSOs are co-curricular groups that help students in career and technical education programs further their knowledge and skills by participating in activities, events, and competitions.

To get into the joint venture of the Diagnostic Assistant program at Kirkwood Community College and the Radiologic Technology program at Mercy/St. Luke's School of Radiological Technology, you must meet the following standards. These steps/requirements are in addition to Kirkwood's steps to become a student.
If college-level placement is not met, students are recommended to meet with an advisor. Kirkwood and Diagnostic Assistant admissions policies and procedures are subject to change at any time. After all admissions criteria are met, students are eligible to apply for the hospital-based program.
Kirkwood offers the prerequisites courses required to enter the Mercy/St. Luke’s Radiologic Technology program. Students that complete the Mercy/St. Luke’s program and receive their certificate in Radiologic Technology can transfer those credits back to Kirkwood to receive the associates degree as long as the prerequisite courses were taken at Kirkwood.
Successful completion of the Mercy/St. Luke’s program leads to a professional licensure or certification. Contact the Mercy/St. Luke’s School of Radiological Technology to determine if the licensure or certification meets requirements in other states.
